As many of you are perhaps already aware, Supreme has set an extremely aggressive membership goal for California this year, charging California to grow the Order by 4,400 new members in Columbian Year 2011-2012. Year to date we have recruited a little over 3,000 new members, so as you can see, we still have a long way to go.
I need your help. For the past 21 years, without fail, California has qualified for the prestigious Supreme Circle of Honor by meeting or exceeding its membership goal. In order to achieve this goal, California councils must collectively recruit at least 500 new members per month during April, May and June – the equivalent of 4 members per District per month for the remainder of the year.
Many of you have already contributed significantly to the progress toward this goal through your membership recruitment efforts, especially your participation in the recent Founder’s Day all church drive, the results of which are still coming in. In order to assure success, however, I request your participation in a 3rd and final state wide membership drive planned on Memorial Day Weekend, May 26th and 27th, 2012 in honor of our veterans and deceased members. I also encourage all 4th Degree members to be present in tuxedo, social baldric and/or Color Corp regalia in churches and parishes throughout California in conjunction with the membership drive. Let’s show them what the Knights are really all about!
My Brothers, through your tireless efforts I am confident California can and will maintain its reputation for excellence, both now and in the future. We should give thanks for the many blessings the Lord has bestowed upon us, while we endeavor to help those in our parishes and communities. Let us take pride in all that we do, and be proud of our many accomplishments. You are the leadership of the Knights of Columbus and through your good works we will continue to grow Fr. McGivney’s dream, Changing and Saving Lives.
