Box 497\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\r\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Gustine CA 95322-0497<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\r\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>California\u2019s Exceptional Fraternal Benefit<br \/>California Columbian Charities provides assistance to Brothers who are suffering financial hardship.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\r\n<p>In 1955 the State Council created <strong>California Columbian Charities, Inc<\/strong>.\u00a0 The charity is dedicated to assisting California Brothers in financial distress, including their widows.\u00a0 For over seventy years we have consistently worked to provide <strong>CHARITY<\/strong>, the first principle of our Order, and to fulfill Blessed Father McGivney&#8217;s mandate of <strong>BROTHER HELPING BROTHER<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n<p>During the past six decades we have responded to over <strong>2400 requests<\/strong> for assistance from Brother Knights in California and have given more than <strong>$3,600,000<\/strong> in relief.<\/p>\r\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>If you know of a Brother who is in need of assistance, please ask his council&#8217;s Grand Knight to contact the California State Council office for Charity application forms.\u00a0 See the following instruction page for details.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\r\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>We need your generous charitable and fraternal support to continue assisting Brothers in distress.<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-6168 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.californiaknights.org\/stage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/CCC-2020-Ribbon.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"121\" height=\"482\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.californiaknights.org\/stage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/CCC-2020-Ribbon.png 121w, https:\/\/www.californiaknights.org\/stage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/CCC-2020-Ribbon-75x300.png 75w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 121px) 100vw, 121px\" \/>The <strong>365 Club<\/strong> and the <strong>Parade of Grand Knights<\/strong> are the primary means of raising funds for California Columbian Charities.\u00a0 We ask that every Brother in California join the <strong>365 Club<\/strong> and <strong>donate a penny a day<\/strong> &#8211; either by adding an additional $3.65 (<strong>or more<\/strong>) to their dues payment, or by a cash donation at council meetings.\u00a0 The council should hold these funds until May when they can be brought to the State Convention and the <strong>Parade of Grand Knights<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If your Council is presently requesting its Brothers to join the <strong>365 Club<\/strong>, we ask all Brothers to donate and join.\u00a0 If not, we ask your Council\u2019s Financial Secretary to introduce your Brothers to the <strong>365 Club<\/strong> by adding an additional line to the dues billing statement (including those sent to non-dues paying Honorary and Honorary Life Members):\u00a0 <strong>\u201c365 Club \u2013 Please add a $3.65 donation to California Columbian Charities.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0 This will provide every Brother in your Council an opportunity to practice charity, unity and fraternity.<\/p>\r\n<p>All Councils, Chapters and Assemblies making a donation to our charity will receive an Award Ribbon.\u00a0 We hope that 100% of the active Councils in California participate and contribute.<\/p>\r\n<p>If a council misses the convention it should not overlook its donation.\u00a0 Please mail all council and personal checks (payable to Californian Columbian Charities) to the above address.\u00a0 The donations can be sent at any time.<\/p>\r\n<p>Although the <strong>365 Club<\/strong> and <strong>Parade of Grand Knights<\/strong> involve only one donation a year at the State Convention, further donations are appreciated by Columbian Charities and by your Brothers in distress.<\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><u>Thank you<\/u><\/strong> for your kindness and generosity.<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">God Bless you for your support of the <strong>365 Club<\/strong> \/ California Columbian Charities.\u00a0 You should be proud of the assistance that you have provided for your Brother Knights and their families.<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><br \/>Charity begins at home &#8211; Who is eligible to obtain assistance?<\/div>\r\n<div>A. Any member of a California Council with at least twelve months good standing who is in\u00a0need of temporary assistance, and the widows and orphans of such members.<\/div>\r\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\r\n<div>Q. How can California Columbian Charities help a Brother in need of assistance?<\/div>\r\n<div>A. By issuing one-time grants to help relieve serious financial distress due to unemployment,\u00a0sickness, family medical and hospital bills, overdue rent or mortgage payments, food,\u00a0clothing, losses due to fire, flood or earthquake. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The Charity\u2019s mission is to provide the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Brother and his family with their basic necessities. No grants will be issued if the Brother\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">has other financial options, nor will a grant be issued to reduce debt.<\/span><\/div>\r\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\r\n<div>Q. What is the first step to obtain aid for a Brother?<\/div>\r\n<div>A. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">If you know of a Brother who is in need of assistance please notify his council&#8217;s Grand <\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Knight. Only the Grand Knight can obtain an application from the California State<\/span><\/div>\r\n<div><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Council Office by sending an email to <em>state.office@californiaknights.org<\/em><\/span><\/div>\r\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\r\n<div>Q. What are the duties of the Investigator?<\/div>\r\n<div>A. 1. The Investigator calls on the Brother who requires assistance, investigates his problem,\u00a0fills out the application, answers all the applicable questions and obtains the applicant&#8217;s\u00a0signature.<\/div>\r\n<div>2. He drafts an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">unbiased<\/span> letter explaining in detail the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">financial<\/span> condition and<\/div>\r\n<div><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">circumstances<\/span> of the distressed Brother and family.<\/div>\r\n<div>3. Upon completion of the investigation, he files the letter and application with the Grand\u00a0Knight of the Council for review and signature of the Financial Secretary and Grand\u00a0Knight.<\/div>\r\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\r\n<div>Q. What are the Grand Knight&#8217;s and Financial Secretary&#8217;s obligations?<\/div>\r\n<div>A. The Grand Knight acts as our preliminary screener and he is asked to endorse and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">forward\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">only meritorious applications<\/span>. He gives the application its initial review. His signature\u00a0certifies that the application is complete, accurate and that the applicant has a genuine need\u00a0for fraternal charitable benefits. The Financial Secretary certifies the applicant\u2019s status and\u00a0longevity in the Order and Council. The GK and FS names and signatures must be affixed\u00a0to the form before sending the application to the Charity.<\/div>\r\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\r\n<div>Q. Should the Grand Knight bring an applicant&#8217;s request to the Council for approval?<\/div>\r\n<div>A. NO! ALL INFORMATION received by the Grand Knight is strictly confidential and<\/div>\r\n<div>should be forwarded to the President of Columbian Charities for processing. However, the\u00a0Grand Knight and his Council should consider assisting the needy applicant themselves.<\/div>\r\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\r\n<div>Q. How long must an applicant wait before assistance is available?<\/div>\r\n<div>A. That depends upon how quickly the investigation takes place and how quickly the Council\u2019s Grand Knight forwards the application to Columbian Charities. After that, it is only a matter of a few days.<\/div>\r\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\r\n<div>Q. Must an applicant re-pay the money to Columbian Charities?<\/div>\r\n<div>A. NO! All financial assistance provided is a grant.<\/div>\r\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\r\n<div>Q. How is the money obtained for these grants?<\/div>\r\n<div>A. Through the generosity of California Councils and individual Brothers, and from special events sponsored by Council charity committees, and through bequests. Every member is asked to join the 365 Club and contribute at least one penny a day.
