The State of California is so large in population and geography that we divide it into “Chapters” to assist with oversight of our 732 councils and 176 districts.  Each Chapter generally coincides with the boundaries of one of the 12 dioceses except for Fresno Diocese with two Chapters and the Los Angeles Archdiocese with four Chapters.  Many Chapters have more councils than many state jurisdictions in the Order.
